Without labour from other European and non-European countries, nursing care would be almost inconceivable today. International nursing staff who apply for professional recognition in Germany must fulfil various requirements before they are granted a final permit. A key criterion is proof of a valid language certificate at language level B2. Nursing staff from non-EU countries must also undergo an examination of their specialised nursing knowledge. This can take the form of a state knowledge test, an oral and practical examination.
Module 1 and Module 2 at a glance:
For whom? International nursing staff from abroad who wish to obtain a licence to use the professional title „Pflegefachfrau/Pflegefachmann“ in Germany
Duration? Approx. 14 weeks (module 1), 7-9 weeks (module 2) plus exams
Degrees? German B2 language certificate (telc), proof of passing the knowledge test („state-recognised nursing specialist“)
We offer a two-part programme (modules 1+2) as a degree-oriented, hybrid in-service training for professional recognition of the international professional qualification „Pflegefachfrau/Pflegefachmann“ in Germany.
Module 1: Basic nursing knowledge and preparation for the specialised language exam
Vocational German B1/B2 for nursing qualifications obtained abroad (hybrid in-service training including examination):
During Module 1, the focus is on teaching basic nursing skills and acquiring knowledge of emergency management, prophylaxis and the hygiene standards applicable in Germany, which are crucial for later practice as a carer. Communication with the client is also emphasised. Participants are therefore taught specialised nursing and nursing language skills. At the same time, they learn German for the nursing profession, which is essential for later professional recognition. Module 1 concludes with the „German B1/B2 Nursing“ exam (telc).
Note: Due to official requirements, proficiency in the German language at level B2 is a nationwide requirement for the professional recognition of nursing qualifications obtained abroad.
Module 2: Compact nursing knowledge and preparation for the knowledge test for professional recognition
As a nursing specialist in Germany (hybrid in-service training including examination):
In addition to the German B2 language certificate, proof of the equivalence of the professional qualification acquired abroad is required. For participants from third countries, this is usually done by means of the so-called knowledge test. The aim of this module is to impart knowledge of treatment care, which builds on the knowledge of basic care from Module 1. Module 2 of the training programme prepares students to successfully pass the knowledge test and concludes with the state examination (oral and practical examination). Module 2 can be attended directly if the relevant prerequisites and proof of basic nursing and language skills are provided.
In Module 2, participants are prepared for the knowledge test in Germany as nursing professionals from outside Europe. The theoretical content is case-orientated and provides optimal preparation for the oral examination. In addition to the theoretical lessons, there is a supervised practical phase in an inpatient or outpatient facility. Targeted learning and reflection tasks and practical lessons are used to strengthen professional nursing skills. This course also includes detailed preparation for the practical examination.
