Gardening with Heart in Halle

In the ProCurand Senior citizens' residence Am Hufeisensee It's particularly green at the moment. Together with the seniors, the social support team has been tending to two lovingly designed raised beds since the beginning of the year, which have since become a small pet project.

A raised bed has been planted with well-known flowering plants such as forget-me-nots, poppies, aubrieta, and cornflowers and blanket flowers, and now brings a lot of colour to our grounds. In the second raised bed, a small 'nibble garden' has been created with strawberries and numerous herbs such as rosemary, chervil, marjoram, thyme, and various types of basil, some of which were even grown from seed ourselves.

The seniors also jointly built a trellis out of long branches for the tomato plants. The plants were then planted, secured, and thoroughly watered. The creative naming process was particularly enjoyable: Käthe is now growing next to Dorothea, and even the small cucumber plants already have their own names.

Since then, watering, short check-ups and tending to the plants together have become a firm part of their daily routine. „As you know, plants grow all the better when you talk to them,“ reports Sylvia Leschnik from the Social Services with a smile.

Shared gardening not only brings colour to outdoor spaces, but also creates many pleasant encounters and conversations in the daily lives of our seniors.
