"Everyone was quickly over the moon and taken with the approachable and impressive animals," says Denise Grytzka, Head of Care and organiser of the visit. Falconeer Achim Häfner spoke very humorously about the beautiful animals and how to handle them. Afterwards, everyone could cuddle with the birds, hold them, pet them, or pose for the odd photo. The day room was packed. Neither residents nor the team wanted to miss this event! „It was so lovely to see what this visit did for our residents, how much it gave them, and what an incredible atmosphere it created," reports Denise. "I wouldn't have thought the owls were so cuddly.“
Owl Emma visited the residents confined to their beds, was thoroughly petted and even rode on a wheelchair! In the sheltered living area, the owl brought a tear or two of emotion to the residents suffering from dementia. The falconer, who travels throughout Germany with his birds, is aware of the effect his birds have: "Those with dementia often remember the experience months later,“ he reports.
