To mark World Alzheimer's Day on 21 September, the Gerontopsychiatrisch-Geriatrische Verbund OSL e.V. organised a hands-on day at the Passage am See in Fischreiherstraße in Senftenberg on 20 September. Under the motto „Experience, feel and learn“, there were numerous hands-on activities. Participants learnt how perception changes with age and what support is available in various situations. A special highlight for our residents was the „wheelchair course“ organised by the Zimmermann medical supply store. The staff advised and supported them in trying out and practising the safe use of aids such as wheelchairs and rollators.
At the ProCurand stand Senftenberg retirement homes and Gently by the lake visitors were able to find out about life and everyday life in our facilities. Our stand team, consisting of Yvonne Skowronek (facility manager), Enrico Kaufmann and Nadine Born (nursing service managers) and Ricarda Thieme (occupational therapist), patiently and competently answered questions on various clinical pictures. Interested parties were also able to try on an old people's suit, which simulates the limited mobility and perception of old age and thus gives a realistic impression of what life can feel like for older people. There was also a throwing wall for all visitors to try their hand at. Those who took part were then able to choose a small gift. The hands-on day was a complete success and offered many exciting insights into life in old age and the support options for senior citizens.
