8 May this year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. In remembrance of this time and in search of contemporary witnesses who experienced the end of the war themselves, the ProCurand Havelpalais retirement home Talks were held with the residents. Two employees from the Brandenburg Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (KMPD) were guests. Some residents took the opportunity to share their personal experiences. One resident talked about his memories as an 8-year-old boy in the final days of the war. The two KMPD employees listened attentively. It was an exciting but also frightening story, which is of great importance for their work, as such experiences can provide valuable information about possible unexploded bombs or undiscovered ordnance.
Although the conversations dealt with serious topics, the atmosphere was friendly and relaxed - there was even some hearty laughter. Over the past few days, further conversations took place with other residents who were also willing to share their experiences. All conversations were held in a confidential setting in order to meet the needs of the individual residents. These conversations have opened up new perspectives and encouraged reflection.
