Maypole stealing in Lam

30.04.2025

This year it was time again: hard-working helpers set up a maypole in Lam, donated by the Schmid family from Arrach The ProCurand care team St Ulrich nursing home and our in-house technician Peter Liebl helped. Eva Pöschl from the kitchen painted the signs on the maypole in bright, bright colours. A few days before the celebration, there was a surprise: the maypole was no longer in its place! It quickly became clear that someone had stolen it. Stealing the maypole is an old custom and a competition between the communities. If a community gets the maypole in their village, it means good luck for all the inhabitants of the village. But the people of Lam did not remain idle. Some residents and members of the centre offered the thieves a crate of beer and a snack to get the maypole back. The offer was accepted and Peter Liebl put the tree up again together with some relatives - this time without incident. The children of the traditional costume club „D Enzianbuam“ from Lohberg danced. There was coffee and cake for everyone. The meat loaf with potato salad and pretzels donated by the Independent Women's Movement Lam was particularly tasty. Everyone enjoyed the start of a hopefully blissful May together!
