Freshly „dressed up“ in Senftenberg

24.06.2025

The two alpacas Eddi and Hugo received their annual shearing - a special event for residents and team alike. Experienced alpaca shearer Achim Winkler visited ProCurand Sanft am See senior citizens' residence in Senftenberg. He was actively supported by the day-to-day carers Carola Höhne and Janet Frindt. Resident Frank Hesse was also there again. As a dedicated helper in the daily mucking out of the stables, he has built up a close relationship with Eddi and Hugo. Curious and with great empathy, he followed the shearing at close quarters. The catching of the two alpacas went smoothly. Eddi and Hugo were secured with a lead and the shearing could begin. Carola Höhne held them lovingly and Achim Winkler gently sheared off the wool. Suddenly they looked as if they had just come straight from the hairdresser! As a reward, there was of course a treat at the end.

The result was impressive: A few days later, residents of the neighbouring facility, the ProCurand Senftenberg retirement home, the two freshly shorn alpacas. Everyone was delighted with the new hairstyle. The excursion only lasted five minutes, but the experience was all the greater for it! The joy was great: many approached curiously, some even fed Eddi and Hugo from their hands. „The calm, gentle nature of the alpacas had a noticeably calming effect on everyone,“ says occupational therapist Ricarda Thieme. It was a great day out for everyone. A big thank you to all the helpers for their efforts during the shearing and to everyone who made the outing possible.
