Excursion to the Annaberg Festival

04.08.2025

The trip to the Annaberg Festival is a cherished tradition for the people of Sulzbach-Rosenberg. It takes place every year at the end of July on the Annaberg, the town's mountain. Thursday is Senior Citizens' Day, on which day 14 residents and 5 carers from ProCurand Senior Citizens' Centre Am Herzogschloss - like every year - the party. This time, they were allowed to take the centre's bus right up to the church square, as the service was held in the church due to the weather, which made the journey much easier.

After the service, we always followed our noses down a small part of the mountain - it smelled deliciously of grilled sausages and sauerkraut. The residents savoured the food, and those who wanted to could enjoy a pint of beer. With a bit of luck, the group had found a covered seating area, as it rained on and off that day, as so often this summer. Everyone was back in the early afternoon. The caretaker sprayed the wheels of the wheelchairs and walking frames clean, as they were quite dirty from the mud on the hill. Only after this short „wash“ was everyone allowed back into the centre. „The residents were still talking days later about how nice this excursion was and regretted that the Annaberg Festival only takes place once a year,“ reports Sonia Haubelt, Head of Social Care, with a laugh. So nice when traditions are upheld!
