Work experience exploration at Bölschestraße Senior Residence

03.06.2026

As part of a career exploration day, 8th-grade students visited the Bölschestraße senior citizens' residence and gained insights into the diverse areas of work within a retirement home.

During a house tour, the young people learned about the areas of care and support, household management, administration, and building services. It became clear how many different professional groups contribute daily to shaping the everyday lives of the senior citizens.

A special focus of the project days was on intergenerational encounters. During joint bingo and skittles, pupils and seniors quickly struck up conversations, shared memories, and spent time together. The young people supported the seniors with the games, listened attentively, and gained personal insight into the life stories of the older generation.

„The encounters have shown how enriching the exchange between young and old can be for both sides,“ reports Denise Grytzka from the social services department.

The vocational taster day gave the pupils an authentic insight into caring professions and showed how important time, attention, and personal encounters are in the daily life of a retirement home.
