In the Senior citizens' residence Am Hufeisensee Baking together took place once again in Halle. This time, eleven residents prepared an apple pie – including two gentlemen. The baking group was supported by Sylvia Leschnik from the life accompaniment team and a trainee.
For the cake, freshly harvested apples from the retirement home's own orchard behind the residence were used. Alongside apple trees with both old and new varieties, pear and plum trees also grow there, as well as jostaberry bushes, a cross between blackcurrant and gooseberry.
During the joint peeling, slicing and baking, there was a lot of chatting, joking and, of course, nibbling along the way. The base of the apple cake was a sponge batter topped with juicy apple slices. Crumble made to a tried-and-tested recipe from the previous year finished off the cake.
Subsequently, the result was tasted together and the baking group agreed: home-baked simply tastes best!
