In the Seniors' Residence Bölschestraße "Individual activation with doll" takes place regularly. Birgit Pohle from Social Support then uses a therapy doll named Mona and visits residents in the care home together with her. In playful interaction with Mona, many find it easier to connect with their feelings and express them without pressure and at their own pace. Those who have dementia benefit particularly. "Words are often forgotten and lose their meaning with dementia, but emotional access remains. Mona is held, some speak to her. Familiarity, care, and fondness often arise, and some recall earlier phases of their lives and open up," reports Birgit Pohle.
Even residents without dementia react to Mona. Mona playfully encourages them to have conversations that might not otherwise have happened, makes them smile and remember. It's not just the big measures that have an impact – thank you, dear colleagues!
