The scams of tricksters, the 'grandchild scam' and 'shock calls', these were the main topics of the police information event in the Procurand. Day care in Halle in the Residenz Am Hallorenring. Two very nice police officers informed the day guests about the latest and most common scams in the age of artificial intelligence. They vividly reported how frighteningly often the grandchild scam works. One of the most insidious phone scams is the shock call, where those called are put under massive pressure and panic. In such a call, the fraudsters pose as a close relative, but often also as police officers, public prosecutors, judges, or doctors, and pretend a dramatic emergency situation. In such a case, the police advise to hang up. To simply hang up and, in case of suspicion, inform the police.
The senior citizens learned that it can be dangerous to answer the phone with „Yes“, because the „Yes“ can be recorded and misused as alleged consent, for example, for a purchase or the conclusion of a subscription. The mobile phones of the day guests were also inspected to check how secure the settings made were. One mobile phone was then adjusted on the spot – much to the owner's relief.
„The two police officers made it very clear. All the day guests enjoyed it and found it very interesting. We thank the two police officers for their time and advice,“ says Nicole Schreiber, Head of Care Services. This was certainly not the last information event on this important topic.
